6+ month contract


Position Summary:
We are looking for highly motivated, energetic and highly organized individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. In this Scrum Master role, you will be the team cheerleader/coach driven to do whatever you can to help the team succeed. You’ll help establish team metrics such as capacity and throughput so you can track sprint progress and help drive teams to meet their sprint goals. You are well-spoken and a natural leader who enjoys building relationships. You thrive on big challenges and bring high energy and enthusiasm to make things happen and achieve results.

In this critical role, you must hold two things in the highest regard: your team’s success and your team’s happiness. As their Scrum Master, your teammates will look to you to lead, coach, and guide them through the challenges of delivering best-in-class technology solutions to our cruise guests. Your teammates will depend on you to solve problems they can’t solve on their own, build a comfortable and productive work environment, understand & constantly communicate the organizational and technological landscape, and guide them to success. In short, you will focus on the team, so the team can focus on delivering amazing products to our guests.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drive with a Bias for Action & Realism
  • Drive your team to deliver on commitments and lead through delivery challenges
  • Remove impediments or guide the team to remove impediments by finding the right people help remove the blocker
Lead with Compassion
  • Provide all support to the team using a servant leadership style and leading by example. This person should personify Scrum and Agile.
  • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.
  • Actively serve and support the Product Owner and Delivery Team in their quest to consistently meet sprint goals
  • Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
Coach with Patience
  • Assess the scrum maturity of the team and coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is welcome, sustainable and comfortable for the team
  • Guide the Scrum Team on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and how to get the most out of self-organization
  • Support and educate the Product Owner, especially with respect to refining (aka grooming) and managing the product backlog.
Know the Details
  • Always be curious to know more about your team, your product, and the technologies that are used to deliver value.
  • Dig into specifics and actively remove ambiguity or confusion from team discussions
  • Never settle for opaque or incomplete answers. If you don’t understand the answer to the question, your team likely doesn’t understand it either.
  • Actively, but professionally, clarify decisions made by your team including product direction, architectural design, graphic design & UI. Seeking clarification will improve your knowledge of the details, your team’s knowledge of the details, and your ability to facilitate future sprints.
Solve Problems to Completion
  • Problem-solve through delivery challenges, seek resolution and escalate when stalled
  • Actively listen to and guide your team to solutions that are often complex and technical
  • Think critically about guidance given from outside the team and realize that by finding the best possible solution to a problem you are protecting your team from unnecessary work, and frustration
Communicate Clearly
  • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and cascading information
  • Find the correct people to communicate with and then clearly communicate blockers, dependencies, risks, or concerns the team has
  • Communicate, listen, communicate, listen and be receptive to feedback of all kinds. Feedback is nothing more than information that will help you and your team in the future
Facilitate
  • Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution as needed to make sure the team stays aligned and focused on the highest priority
  • Initiate and facilitate collaboration involving topics on the critical path be it for designs, decisions, or resolutions to conflicts or misalignments across teammates.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • While this role does not have direct budget, expense and/or revenue targets, as a critical chain in the software development life cycle, scrum masters have a direct impact on the financial success of the product.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience/training; MBA preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working in digital related fields (technology, engineering, data analysis, architecture, design, etc.)
  • Prior experience in digital product organizations highly preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Previous experience working on software and/or mobile app development projects
  • Previous project management experience, preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience with agile methodology and frameworks like Scrum strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical acumen and knowledge of software development processes/procedures and ability to connect the dots between different technical tracks
  • Must be comfortable presenting in front of an audience of peers and/or senior executives
  • A strong leader and collaborator within the team, as well as with other teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including strong presentation skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, start-up like environment on mobile app or IT platform development
  • Energetic self-starter who can take initiative, figure things out and lead through influence rather than direct control
  • Must be well organized, methodical and pay close attention to detail
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Possess strong analytical skills
  • Flexible and adaptable in an evolving start-up like environment
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Leads by example
